Is TergiKleen a one step cleaning solution?
No, TergiKleen is not a one step solution. Just as when you are washing dishes in your sink, you rinse to remove soil suspended in your wash water, you need to rinse your records in distilled water after washing them.

Why does the fluid go bad after just two years? I can't use a fraction of the fluid in that time.
Dow Chemical says that the shelf life for Tergitol, as used in TergiKleen, is two years. We've never heard of it actually going bad and many people seem to think that the 2 year shelf life claim is just Dow covering its corporate rear end.

Why do we advise against using alcohol to clean records?

TergiKleen is the brainchild of guitarist and audio expert Dave Stephens of SDPickups. He has been profiled in several guitar magazines and is known in his community for his exceptional "ear" for guitar tone. He ships custom made vintage replica pickups to “name” guitarists around the world, such as William DuVall of Alice in Chains.

Dave can distinguish differences in sounds that would be indistinguishable to ordinary mortals like me (Suzanne Stephens).I know from having been with him for decades as he tested his replica guitar pickups against originals that he is much more sensitive to sound than I am. Dave might spend years perfecting the way a pickup imitates a vintage pickup while to me, a guitar is either too loud or not too loud.

Dave says that cleaning records with alcohol ruins a vinyl record's treble tones, making them sound brittle. I can’t tell the difference between one pickup vs another but if he says alcohol destroys records, I take Dave's opinion as the word of a guitar "god."

Sorry, we don't recommend it for use on shellac or acetate records.

I use a Record Doctor cleaning machine with a vacuum. Do I still need to rinse after vacuuming off the TergiKleen solution?
Yes, we recommend rinsing with distilled water after cleaning with virtually any method to completely remove any soil that might be suspended in the TergiKleen solution.
